Assaia, the industry leader in AI-enabled turnaround management, is thrilled to announce the appointment of Tim Toerber as Vice President of Business Development - Americas.

Seattle, 12 September 2023- Assaia, the industry leader in AI-enabled turnaround management, is thrilled to announce the appointment of Tim Toerber as Vice President of Business Development - Americas.

Max Diez, Assaia CEO, said, “Tim brings a wealth of operational and strategic expertise to Assaia at an important time when our market share is growing significantly. It is an important time for the industry, with passenger numbers set to exceed pre-Covid levels very soon, which will put increasing pressure on resources and infrastructure. Airlines, airports, and ground handlers need to find all the efficiency gains they can and the turnaround is an obvious target.”

Having served as the Senior Program Manager for Airport Affairs and Operations Strategy at Amazon Air, Tim joins Assaia with a strong track record of success. His appointment comes as Assaia solidifies its position as the gold standard for aircraft turnaround optimization at airports around the world.

In his new role, Tim will play a crucial part in expanding Assaia's partnerships with airports and airlines in the Americas. Tim said, "When it comes to meeting surging demand, limited airport capacity, and workforce staffing challenges, Assaia's AI-enabled computer vision solutions offer unprecedented insight. I am excited to join the incredibly talented team at Assaia and extend the deployment of these powerful tools to more users in the aviation industry."

Toerber is no stranger to Assaia, having previously helped deploy their solution at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) from 2019-2021, while working with the Port of Seattle. Tim is eager to integrate them into airport operations on a broader scale, having witnessed firsthand the game-changing nature of Assaia's solutions.

Tim continued, "I am particularly enthusiastic about collaborating with industry colleagues to address complex safety challenges on the ramp. We have the opportunity to set new benchmarks for reliable average turn times. This will unlock new levels of aircraft utilization for airlines and gate utilization for airports.

"With over 20 years of experience in the aviation field, Tim's passion for aircraft began during his studies in aeronautics and technology at the University of North Dakota. Following his education, he served in the US Army.

After leaving active duty military service in 2014, Tim combined his passions for public service and aviation to join the Port of Seattle in managing Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA). Tim helped SEA grow from the 16th to the 8th busiest airport in the nation by optimizing resource utilization and implementing new technology to expand the operational capacity of the airport’s limited footprint. As an operations leader at SEA, he implemented many new efficiency and technology solutions, including airport resource optimization tools, advanced visual docking guidance systems for automated aircraft parking, and Assaia’s AI-enabled turnaround optimization solution, Apron AI.

In 2022 Tim joined Amazon Air, the fastest growing air cargo operation in the world. At Amazon, Tim served as the Senior Program Manager for Airport Affairs and Operations Strategy where he was the business’s voice with airports across North America, building airport partnerships, completing real estate deals, and implementing operations strategy initiatives.

Tim enjoys giving back to his community and serves on the Tacoma Narrows Airport Advisory Commission, is a member of the Rotary Club of Gig Harbor, and a board member of the Rotary Foundation.

Max concluded, “Assaia is looking forward to the valuable contributions Tim will bring to the company as Vice President of Business Development - Americas. Together, we are poised to shape the future of aircraft turnaround management and usher in a new era of efficiency and innovation within the aviation industry.”

The way Turnaround 2.0 uses AI and machine learning to boost our zone controllers' efficiency is remarkable. They can now manage multiple gate activities with more focus on handling exceptions, rather than multitasking. Turnaround 2.0 is more than a tool for the present; it's a foundation for 'United Next,' growing with us and helping us surpass our operational goals efficiently.
